About MistyWest

MistyWest is a hardware engineering consultancy that exists to create novel technologies that enable a healthier planet and bring prosperity to all humankind, with a focus primarily on hardware projects that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Role

MistyWest is hiring a 4–8 month Co-op Student for the Summer 2026 term (starting May) who has a mixed discipline background in mechatronics - preferably leaning towards mechanical and electrical engineering.

You will be working alongside a team mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineers on real client projects — from early concept and prototyping through to testing and iteration. You'll contribute to electromechanical design challenges across a variety of industries, getting exposure to the full product development cycle.

Depending on the project, that could mean CAD modeling, circuit design, hands-on prototype assembly, embedded programming, running experiments and data analysis, laboratory testing or all of the above.

Requirements

Candidates applying are not expected to meet all of the requirements listed. For applications please highlight examples related to some of the following:

  • Interest in research and development phase of product development
  • Working knowledge of electrical design for digital circuits and integration of microcontrollers
  • Can use electronic lab tools: oscilloscope, soldering, adjustable power supplies
  • Can use desktop 3D printers (FDM, SLA)
  • Experience using 3D CAD design (Solidworks, OnShape)
  • Have designed mechanical components in a few of the following fabrication methods: machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, injection molding, laser/water-jet cutting
  • Familiarity with PCB design from schematic capture to layout (Altium bonus points)
  • Familiarity with spectrometers and data analysis

Benefits

  • 37.5 hour work week and flexible weekly allocation
  • Access to a well-stocked software library based on the project needs
  • Complimentary staff events like parties, lunch & learn, shared meals, and community events
  • Working in an attractive, bright, open-plan, dog-friendly office in Mount Pleasant, with complimentary snacks and espresso!
  • Salary mentioned for 4-8 months term of Co-op. ~CAD$4000/month
